Funding Innovations in Diabetes
India is witnessing a rapid increase in the number of people with Diabetes, standing at 77 million. This rapid increase is attributed to several factors including diet, lifestyle, intrinsic and extrinsic factors. To develop scientific solutions and creating new avenues for diagnosis and management of diabetes, Chellaram Diabetes Research Centre fund research projects and innovations which would help create a lasting impact on the current and future Diabetes scenario. The funding will be for clinically translatable innovative research projects which could have a measurable IMPACT on health of people with diabetes and related complications. The grants will encompass all areas of diabetes research and will be approved after review and assessment by the experts.

Basic Research
We conduct mechanistic as well as clinical studies to understand the reasons for diabetes among Indians, and also to discover the unique aspects of diabetes in India. Our objective is to carry out basic research using genetics, molecular biology, proteomics, immunology, and cell biology tools to understand the molecular mechanisms in the pathophysiology of diabetes & its complications. The Research laboratory has, among other things, the best in class equipment to conduct basic research projects including immunological and molecular studies.

Clinical Research
In addition to basic studies, the research division conducts clinical trials. Chellaram Diabetes Institute has a well-developed Clinical Research Division with all modern laboratory infrastructure and a pool of qualified & experienced investigators and research professionals. We encourage and support the clinical development of newer and innovative products which could improve the health outcome of patients with diabetes. The division follow and strictly adhere to the ICH-GCP guidelines while conducting the clinical trial activities. We have all the facilities to do clinical trials from phase I-IV. Clinical trials with indication of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Obesity, Diabetic Foot Ulcer, Diabetic Painful Neuropathy, Investigator Initiated Trial and a real world observational study mentioned below. The projects and activities of clinical research division is overseen by scientific & ethical committees and data safety monitoring board. The Institute Ethic Committee (IEC) registered as per CDSCO norms. The IEC reviews and accords approval to clinical trials and BA/BE study protocol of new drug and also conducts periodic reviews as per the New Drugs and Clinical Trial Rules, 2019.

Chronicle of Diabetes Research and Practice is a Flagship Journal of the Chellaram Diabetes Institute published twice a year in organized volumes by Medknow (Wolters Kluwer), one of the largest open access publishers. Each issue includes Original Articles, Brief Communication, Commentary, Everyday Clinical Practice, Review and Meta-analyses of great scientific potential. The Journal does not charge for submission, processing or publication of manuscripts and for colour reproduction of photographs.
Chronicle of Diabetes Research and Practice is an open access, peer reviewed online and print Journal with a focus to address the unique challenges in Diabetology by publishing articles covering all areas of Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and related complications. The Journal provides a forum for healthcare professionals, clinical and basic researchers, diabetes educators and all allied professionals working in the field of diabetes to submit original research and other articles.
